It will probably dismay a lot of people to know that my love for the frivolous isn't really extended to bags. Extravagant clothes, yes. Ridiculous shoes, yes. Overly-adorned bags? No. It's not a matter of cost. I have no objections against expensive handbags. However, it's simplicity I'm after. With simplicity, also comes oversized. My love for the non-descript functional big black leather sack is evident in the lack of bags in the outfits which I post. It's like the boring daggy side of me instilled into whatever bag I'm carrying. It's also my way of restoring some balance into my outfits. I could have on a grey tulle tutu and a silver headdress but the functional, nondescript bag weights it down and restores some sense of normality.
Some might interpret that as a lack of conviction and an unwillingness to go all the way..... ah well....so be it. My airy fairy ways just aren't extended to the bag.
My current label of choice to pin down for my next nondescript sack is Chris & Tibor [1]. Man bags they may be but they all tick my boxes for oversized and unidentifiable.... bags that can go incognito are the sort I favour and their AW08-9 'Barbican - Future Past' exhibition certainly fulfills that criteria. Black, chocolate and silver leathers with different textures are reflections of Barbican in London, an area of odd and experimental cityscape. For Tranoi [2] Homme AW08-9 in Paris in January, Chris & Tibor [3] were also chosen to mount an installation based on their collection and partnered up with Stefi Orazi [4] to do so at the Palais de la Bourse.
Of course, Chris & Tibor's collection also makes perfect boyf pressies.... yup, matching Chris & Tibor bags for moi et boyf isn't fazing me....because any bag which can weight down my outfits is one worth having....
