Do you like fish soup?  I do but if you don't, that's ok because this post doesn't really have anything to do with soup or fish (if interested though, I'm really into the soupe de poisson at Randall & Aubin [1] in Soho...).  Instead, Soup & Fish [2] is an e-shop based in Austria that sells past season goodies for men [3] and women [4] from a host of Austrian designers as well as other avant garde designers like Bernhard Willhelm, Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf.  I discovered the shop via my boyfriend's obsession with buying polaroid film on the Analog Photography shop hosted by Unsalelable [5].  Unsalelable also happens to host Soup and Fish [6] and from there an hour of Austrian designer links [7] exploration ensued.  Some like Florian Ladstaedter, Pelican Avenue [8] and Hartmann Nordenholz [9] I knew of.  Others like Saskia Wendland and House of the Very Island [10] I hadn't a clue about (I think a designers' dossier organised by country is in order...) so it was an educational hour spent.

It really is like a super edited, super selective version of Yoox in that a lot of the items for sale are past season, something that is really quite irrelevant when talking about these designers because the pieces aren't necessarily trend-led but unique in their own way.

Their selection of pants [12] also make me rethink my 'no-online-trousers-buying' policy because for fear of weird fit.  However, trousers like the Saskia Wendland ones with gold panels and the Pelican Avenue dip dye ones have such a distinctive design that if they turn out to be a little ill-fitting, it wouldn't bother me so much...
