My Pale Blue Lunchbox

It wasn’t actually that long ago but it seems like an absolute age away that I carried around a pale blue vinyl lunchbox around like a handbag.  I have to explain that it wasn’t an emo thing because I’ve seen teens carrying metal ones with band names tacked all over them.  It wasn’t a ‘I’m cute and ironic because I carry around a child’s accessory’ thing.  It wasn’t even some sort of a Japanese streetstyle influence.  I just really liked this 25cm x 20cm x 10cm pale blue vinyl cuboid lunchbox that had a mirror inside and had a detachable strap.  It came with a flask but I think I left it on the bus.  I loved smelling it because in general, I loved the scent of vinyl fabrics and really really plasticky things.  It was the sort of plastic that almost smelt ‘sweet’ as weird as that sounds.  I wore it mostly with the strap worn over the shoulders.  I don’t even think I had that much to put in it... my ickle ‘teen’ cash card, my bus pass, a little coin purse, some Vaseline, some gum and oh, that now antiquated pager!  It was super important to me that I had those things rattling inside that vinyl box.

Therefore I had to let out a little squeal when I saw this oversized wallet in pale blue leather and ecru on the Gaspurd Yurkievich e-shop.  It’s under men’s accessories but for both sexes, I think it would be quite a sight to carry your wallet in such an open manner.  A clutch is like the more frivolous, less practical cousin on this oversized wallet that comes with all sorts of compartments, pockets and even an iPod holder.  Of course for me, the memories of my pale blue lunchbox and also the boxy appeal of it and just the way it commands you to carry it are all making me want to relive those quasi-kitschy days.  I might even try and find my pager to see if it still works...or whether I still have a ton of messages on it...

**EDIT** Mr Yurkievich must not have been happy with my post dedicated to his oversized wallet as the product has now been REMOVED from the e-shop website...  or did it sell out in the last few hours?  Who knows...

Apologies...but at least the pics are still here!
