The Many Strands of Nova Dando

Novad1

People often accuse me of having an 'editorial' way of dressing.  I mean that in the negative sense of the word, the way Hadley Freeman defines it, in that it means 'totally unwearable, bordering on ridiculous'.  So a collection created by a stylist by nature was certainly going to strike an impression on me.  Nova Dando is a jackquette of all trades, a knitwear specialist after graduating from CSM, an ex-PR girl, stylist for music videos and fashion shoots, DJ as part of DJ duo Lou and Nova and now has started making pieces for her shoots, vids and for stage outfits.

It is precisely this sort of background information that doesn't make you go 'Eh?' when you see Nova Dando's AW08-9 'Disco Collection'.  Every piece is made to order and is meant to give off major 'WOWZA' factor.  Except you'll have supposed 'editorial' (said with great repugnance and a sneer) dressing me wanting to wear the twisted ribbon skirts, the silver disc bomber jacket, the knotted halterneck top made out of mesh tubing and the buttoned adorned corset without giving a thought to what the convetions of 'wearability' are supposed to dictate.  In the context of the lookbook, it might all be screaming 'Boombox Clubkid' (excuse the late club lingo because of course it's now all about FashBash/Issue/Circus), which may not be a bad thing for some but I'm the sort of temperate person that would like to take those pieces out of the pictures and pounce them onto onlookers as a subtle surprise in an outfit.

Of course an LED-adorned hoop petticoat skirt and super spiked shoulder pads (as modelled here by Mandi Lennard) are just a leetle out of my range so I'll leave them to the Ebony Bones and Roisin Murphys of the world to take them on.
