Just a small dose for me, thanks!
I do apologise on the eve of this much-needed long Easter weekend (not for the Americans though....!) for bombarding everyone's eyes with highly colourful, slightly headache inducing images....
I didn't mean to seek out these designers that are have their heads up in colour blocking, all sorts of prints, a tendancy to mis-match and a disregard for trends... their collections just found me, a person who couldn't actually dress head to toe in any of this stuff because I'm a half hearted wuss who can't really carry off a head to toe look that is very much signature of that designer and because I have a natural propensity to try and hide the origins of a garment.
Sadly, I can't push the boat out enough to have fun in the complete look of these designers' happy-happy-la-la-land visions. No, instead, I'd rather be a scroogey pessimist and rain on their parades with evil thoughts of recession and the like by pairing these pieces with a heap of grey, something sharp/fierce going on on the feet and perhaps some leather too.
I so wish I could have seen C. Neeon's AW08-9 presentation in Paris as looks like it was a wonderful riot of lines, swirls and drapings....
Devandervar is a streetwear/fashion label designed by Sofie Edvard Nielsen and Tina Vanda who likes strong colour contrasts, strategic lines and isn't at all restricted by the humble sweatshirt...
Cooperative Designs has been getting a fair bit of press lately and their AW08-9 collection is all about tribal imagery, Jan Svankmajer's Faust and Dario Argento's Suspiria (yes, I had to Wikipedia the last one....and yes, I had to edit it.... the name now sounds a lot more familiar...wonder why they spelt it wrong on the Coop Design website....).
I actually went to see the collection at Cube PR on behalf of Brittique who is the sole online stockist of Coperative Designs and I was tickled by their Aztec references and complex jersey knitting. Don't shoot me but I'm saying yes to the fringed jersey on the trousers.
**EDIT** Yes, I'm a doofus...a reader helpfully sent me this...'There are no llamas in Mexico where the Aztecs (or Mexicas) once lived (and still live if we think about their descendents). Therefore, the reference in the complex jersey knitting is Andean / Inca.'
Ohmygod...like, that's so CON-FUSING! Like, seriously, my head is like seriously hurting from all this history stuff!
