Nikicio wants to be loved

I don’t necessarily believe that collections need to be totally cohesive, flowing correctly and making complete sense.  Disjointed, unrelated clothes that still fit together as if you were peering into a person’s wardrobe work in their own way too.  Nina Nikicio, is behind the label Nikicio, which is based in Indonesia (yay for the far flung fashion that is coming through via the awesomeness that is the internet.....) and she is out to combine practicality and humour and quite pointedly be anti-fashion which shows through the images, a collaboration amongst friends.

We have recognisable things like the tuxedo jacket, the tailored jacket, the trench, the shirt dress and oxford shoes but they’ve gone a little wayward.... added belt loops, coat tails, huge collars, oversized cutting,  lopping off the sleeves.... I know I go on and on about ‘added twists’ in labels, but Nikicio has been quite measured with her whimsies.  The fabric choices seem to also support her decisions to go with this concept of creating items that are to be worn a lot, with a lot of personal attachment to them.

Nina says “I want the collection to be personal, a part of a person’s everyday life, but we all know that people hide sometimes, and I try to bring them a comfortable place to conceal, take the load off, and dress up.”  I do wonder that it must be hard to keep the wearer in mind whilst indulging in a designers’ own desires and she seems to have done both.

For instance she goes mad and a bit random with this quilting on the bags and embroidery on the dress and I think we have found another example of someone wanting to wear their bags....(glad I wasn’t the only crazy person...)!

Love the different quilting designs on the bags that are like childhood illustrations on fluffy clouds.

The blanket is also part of the collection too, an overriding sign of providing comfort?

But back to the sharp tailoring and I guess most people would think there is a lack of continuity.... but then again I’m the sort of person who can’t streamline their outfit to completely ally myself with one style.  I am that girl wearing a sharply cut cape jacket whilst carrying a rainbow quilted bag.
